Snake bites are a serious medical emergency, especially in the wilderness. With the right knowledge, most lives can be saved.
Prevention: Wear boots and long trousers, use a torch at night, avoid tall grass and rock piles, never provoke snakes, and keep camps and compounds clean.
If bitten: Stay calm, immobilize the limb, remove tight items, and seek hospital care immediately — only antivenom is effective.
Never: cut, suck, burn, use a tourniquet, or delay medical care.
At ParkDoctor of Tanzania, we remind travelers, rangers, and communities: Every snake bite is an emergency. Quick action and hospital care save lives.
